In accordance with Iowa Code section 49.109, employees eligible to vote in a public election may be excused from regular duty with pay during voting hours on any election day for a period not to exceed 3 hours (including nonworking hours). Application for time should be made to the staff member's department head prior to election day. The specific time off may be designated by the department head and granted only if the employee's work schedule does not allow a 3 consecutive hour period outside of working hours during which polls are open.
